Thanks to everyone who’s shared their knowledge of networks and newsletters – we’ve got a good list so far, but if you can think of any more, it’s not too late to add them.

We’ve also been looking into Google+, the social network made by Google. Networking ‘on the net’ was suggested at the network shaping event in May, so we’ve looked at a few different options and this looks like the best fit – what do you think?

For good old fashioned face-to-face networking, come along to Power Plus on 13th October – more details below.

Learnings following recent SSP Health Limited (SSP) case

Most providers will be familiar with the frustrations caused by the inflexible approach often exhibited by CQC in circumstances where an inspection outcome does not fit the provider’s own knowledge and experience of a service. A new case, which has just been heard, has given some very helpful support to providers who believe they are being treated unfairly in the context of CQC inspections. Our latest ebriefing contains important learnings that will help your members and it would be helpful if you could share with your networks to raise awareness of these.

Domiciliary Care Provider Engagement – Briefing Paper

The Institute of Public Care (IPC)1 at Oxford Brookes University has been asked by Hampshire County Council to carry out an engagement exercise with domiciliary care providers. The aim of the review is to gain input from the provider market that will inform the county’s plans for the future in responding to the challenges and opportunities in the domiciliary care market.

IPC will be carrying out a number of activities during June which will provide the opportunity for you and your organisation to contribute to this important process.

  •  IPC will build on previous and ongoing discussions with lead providers on the framework to confirm the main issues which will need to be addressed.
  • This information (as well as other market analysis and document reviews) will be used to inform the design of an electronic survey.
  • IPC will invite all domiciliary care providers working in the county to take part in the survey during June and offer their ideas on how to address the issues through next steps.
  • Using survey return information, IPC will invite a small number of domiciliary care providers (in the week beginning 20th June) to have further more detailed conversation about their comments to better understand the suggestions being made.
  • IPC will write up the results of these engagement activities and this, together with the output of other engagement and analysis, will inform the next stage of the county’s development of future options.

The County will consider the ideas and suggestions from this exercise in developing a number of options for the future provision of services. These options will be tested with providers at an event to be held in late July and before any final decisions are made.

If you have any questions about this engagement exercise please contact Juliet Bligh at IPC (jbligh@brookes.ac.uk) or Karen Ashton at Hampshire County Council karen.ashton@hants.gov.uk

CQC – Improving our customer experience

To do our job well, it’s really important that people tell us about their experience of care.

By providing us with this information, they help us improve the overall quality of care in England. It also help us to prevent poor care and abuse happening to others in the future.

At CQC we have recently been reviewing the experience our customers have when they contact us, particularly those who tell us their concerns about services we regulate.

We are working with a partner organisation called Quality Health who will carry out a survey to gather feedback from members of the public who have contacted us to share their concerns.
